Students at Donalda School participate in a variety of extracurricular activities over the course of each school year.
There are generally six dances in the year, and each is sponsored by a different Clearview Division school. The first is called 'Welcome Back', and is followed by dances at Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's, Easter, and Year End. Donalda School has traditionally hosted the Halloween Dance, but has recently hosted at Easter and Valentine's. Dances are attended by students from grades 7 to 9.
Field Trip, Ski Trips, Year-End Trip, etc.
Additional extracurricular activities offered at Donalda School include field trips, which are used as a supplement to the school's academic and social programs. The average field trip could be to a relatively local site, perhaps to witness newspaper production at the Stettler Independent, or see a tour of the power plant at Joffrey. More distant excursions have been to the Tyrel Museum in Drumheller, to Red Deer for our annual ski trip, or to Edmonton to watch the Eskimos or Oilers. We also undertake an annual ski trip to a local hill. Students are known to enjoy and benefit socially and academically from the field trips offered at Donalda School.
The Year-End Field Trip is especially enjoyed by students, possibly because it marks the beginning of summer vacation. In the past, Junior High students have attended the Sylvan Lake Waterslides, or gone neon bowling in Camrose. Elementary students have gone to Willow Grove Campground or Old MacDonalds Campground to swim, hike and play games.
Weekend Sporting Competitions
Attending evening and weekend sporting competitions such as volleyball, basketball, badminton, and soccer tournaments and matches is another extracurricular activity offered to Donalda students and team members. In volleyball, for example, the Donalda Eagles boys' and girls' teams attend between four and six tournaments during the early part of the school year. Superior coaching by teachers or parent volunteers, and enthusiastic participation by players, has resulted in Donalda School achieving a first rate reputation for sportsmanship and competition throughout Central Alberta. All students, regardless of skill or previous experience, are invited and encouraged to participate in Donalda School's sporting program.
In conclusion, Donalda School staff and parents go to great lengths to ensure interesting and informative extracurricular activities are provided for students on a regular basis and in a variety of areas.
Each year at Christmas, Donalda School opens its doors to the community, welcoming participation and contribution to the Christmas Spirit. One such effort is the yearly Christmas Concert, which welcomes participation from each student and teacher. Included in the programs are a variety of entertainment formats ranging from piano recitals to Christmas plays and skits.
